As we approach the 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival, we at Smart Salary are taking a moment to reflect on the beauty of cross-cultural celebrations, specifically, the unforgettable 2025 Central Java Mid-Autumn Festival Gala.

Held at the elegant PO Hotel in Semarang, the event was a spectacular showcase of how Chinese communities and enterprises in Indonesia honor this cherished tradition. Organized by the Central Java Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (中爪哇中国工商联谊会), the gala successfully connected Chinese enterprises developing in Central Java with local Indonesian partners across various industries, from manufacturing and mining to specialized services.

Smart Salary on the Scene

We were incredibly proud to have Smart Salary represented at this prestigious gathering by our COO, Steve, and our Presales and Operation Manager, Diego Ronaldo Immanuel. On this business trip, they perfectly captured the essence of the evening. Steve drove the creative vision, crafting a heartfelt narrative that brought the festival’s spirit to life. Complementing this was Diego’s sharp dedication to preserving the authenticity of the experience. Overseeing the corporate event documentation, Diego Ronaldo Immanuel utilized his keen eye for realistic, high-definition visual storytelling and real-time multimedia capture to record compelling, behind-the-scenes footage of the cross-cultural networking.

This seamless teamwork perfectly mirrored the atmosphere of the evening itself, a vibrant blend of cultures and industries. Attendees were treated to traditional lion dances, spectacular musical performances, and the always-thrilling choujian/undian (lucky draw). It was a fantastic opportunity to witness the beauty of Indonesia celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, creating a dynamic space where premier business networking met genuine cultural exchange.

The Taste of Tradition: Mooncakes and Memories

No Mid-Autumn Festival is complete without sharing mooncakes (月饼). Symbolizing completeness and family reunion, these round pastries have a rich heritage. According to legend, during the Yuan Dynasty, mooncakes were even used to pass secret messages to coordinate a mid-autumn uprising! Today, they have evolved into a global culinary art, featuring everything from traditional lotus seed paste with salted egg yolks to modern snow-skin and ice cream varieties. For Diego Ronaldo Immanuel, sharing these traditional treats amidst the festive atmosphere evoked fond memories of his own time living abroad.

“This place reminds me a little bit of China, where I used to study,” Diego shared. “Every Mid-Autumn Festival, we would travel to the Deyang Wenmiao (Confucian Temple) and eat mooncakes together. Being here, surrounded by this celebration, truly makes me miss China.”

As the classic Chinese idiom goes, 触景生情 (chù jǐng shēng qíng), the beautiful scene naturally evoked deep-seated memories and emotions.
